A trundle daybed on the ground floor can be used to accommodate up to 6 people altogether

The Looking Glass House

Summary
  • Architect designed stunning house with breathtaking views, detached and set in huge gardens
  • Large open plan living dining room with floor to ceiling glass doors leading to the wrap around decked terrace with seating to show off the best views in Bath
  • Master bedroom with super king bed and en suite shower room
  • The second bedroom has a super king that can also be made into twins with a jack and jill bathroom with a separate bath and shower
  • Fully stocked kitchen
  • Private parking for 4 cars outside the property
  • Bath is a 15 minute walk away
  • Awarded plum guide certificate of excellence.

The house is spread over 2 floors and entrance into the property can be either through the ground floor next to the private parking, or up through the garden to the main living area comprising the ensuite bedrooms, kitchen, dining and lounge. The house is located off Lyncombe Hill, one of the 7 hills that form the little city of Bath, and is a 15 minute walk down into the centre of town or about a £6 taxi ride.

The main entrance on the first floor leads you into a wide hallway off which both of the bedrooms can be found. The master bedroom on your right has a superking 6 foot bed, a large chest of drawers, a triple wardrobe and a small sofa to snuggle up on with your favourite book. There are patio doors off the bedroom leading to the back garden or to the decking off the lounge. There is an ensuite bathroom with sink, w.c. and beautifully tiled walk in shower. The 2nd bedroom on the left of the hallway has 2 single beds which can zip together to make a 6 foot superking bed, a chest of drawers and wardrobe. There is a door leading to a large bathroom with sink, w.c. bathtub and separate shower. This bathroom is a jack and jill bathroom meaning there is also a door off the hallway to it. Therefore it can be used as a private ensuite to bedroom 2 or as a family bathroom.

Carry further down the hallway and the property opens up to the open plan lounge and dining area designed with solid wood flooring throughout and floor to ceilings windows which open up completely to show off the stunning views of the gardens and beautiful hillside. A wrap around decking with table and 6 chairs and a 2 seater bench are perfect for al fresco dining or for just simply taking in that stunning view. The lounge has two 3 seater sofas, a wall mounted gas fireplace and extra casual chairs are dotted around allowing you to take in the view from different areas. A floor to ceiling bookshelf is filled with books and decorative pieces. There is a large flat screen freesat TV with Netflix, and all catch up channels, a DVD, Wifi, and a Bluetooth sound system.
The dining table, cleverly positioned to allow you to dine with a view, is extendable and has 6 chairs. The kitchen adjoins the dining area and is fully stocked with everything you will need to prepare a lovely meal. There is a single electric oven and hob, microwave, fully stocked cupboards and plenty of windows so you don’t ever have to miss out on that view.

A contemporary wooden and glass staircase leads you down to the ground floor where you will find a table and chairs, additional seating, a desk, large chest of drawers and a trundle daybed which can be used to accommodate up to 6 people altogether. There is a shower room with sink, w.c. and shower and a separate utility room with extra hanging space, and washing machine with combination dryer.

The property comes equipped with everything you will need including toiletries, linens and towels, stock items and a welcome hamper for your arrival. As with all of our properties it is strictly non smoking in the property.

The property has the rare advantage of private parking within the grounds of the house. There would be room to park 3 or 4 cars.

SPECIAL NOTE: Parties/Hen Parties: As the house is located in a quiet residential area, the Owners of the Looking Glass House do not want parties to be held or what is generally thought of as "Hen Parties" in this house. Dinner parties for those occupying the house are of course no problem. If you think you may be too high-spirited for the Looking Glass House, another choice might be preferable.

SPECIAL NOTE: Children: The Owners are happy to have children in the property but want you to be aware there are no stair gates and the property has a lot of glass and sharp edges with an open tread staircase, so you will need to determine if the property would be suitable for your children.

Testimonials

We were thrilled with this very cosy airbnb booking in the heart of Bath, a brief walk to all the places we needed to be: the recreation/rugby ground, the river and the local restaurants and shops. The decor is so stylish throughout and we felt very pampered and relaxed there throughout our stay. The only thing I would warn is that the outside steps down are very steep and potentially slippery (it snowed during our stay!) and the door handles are quite stiff for weak hands. But it was so warm and welcoming when we walked through the door and an endless supply of hot water for the fabulous free standing bath was an added bonus. I really recommend this delightful little bolt hole for any trip to Bath in the future and we would definitely return ourselves.

Wonderful as ever - our third stay, and we hope to visit again next year. Great location, fabulous views and nearby walks. We were lucky with super weather in October and enjoyed the terrace for morning coffee and pre dinner drinks!

This house has beautiful views from the balcony and we are out there for every meal. The house is very comfortable and the garden was also lots of fun for our kids aged 3 and 6. The location of the house is also ideal - it was very pleasant walking into explore the sights. We would definitely stay here again.
The Looking Glass House Anna - 2022-09-09
Super interior with great books and decor; kitchen well equipped, very comfortable beds and good bathrooms. Of course, The Looking Glass House has fabulous views from its wrap-around terrace and you can easily do some lovely walks from the property. We spent pretty much the whole time on the terrace, eating out for every meal!
Have already booked a repeat visit!
The Looking Glass House Kate - 2022-08-01
A beautiful house in a great location. Easy access to Bath and the surrounding countryside. The house itself is superb with a fab balcony and gardens. A perfect place to stay!
The Looking Glass House Mike - 2022-05-10
This stay was nothing but perfect! Perfect location under 10 minutes away from Bath Spa train station and city centre however the walk is quite steep walking back to the house so wouldn’t recommend anyone with mobility issues. The house was beautiful, kitchen fully equipped, bedrooms and bathrooms spotless. Easy and clear instructions from the host regarding pre arrival and check out. Was offered a early check in which was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend!
The Looking Glass House Valecia - 2021-05-23
" Thanks for a lovely stay. Appreciated the welcome pack. It's cost me a bit extra as the books on display were very interesting! So interesting that I've had to buy The Second World war in six volumes by Winston Churchill. Suspect the owner has a far east connection. Lovely house with great views.
The Looking Glass House Norrie - 2020-12-21
Beautiful, private property with stunning views. Great location and enjoyed walking around the surrounding areas. The property is stylish and well kept. Highly recommend and look forward to our next stay already! Thank you Alexa and Laine!
The Looking Glass House Caroline - 2020-07-07
“Immaculate beautiful home in a great location, couldn't recommend it enough!”
The Looking Glass House Rachel - 2020-02-02
The Looking Glass was a perfect place for a visit to Bath. Alexa and Laine were exceptionally prompt and detailed in their communication. We were looking for somewhere conveniently located to Bath but within easy reach of the countryside and with lovely views and the Looking Glass fit the bill. It is close enough to Bath to walk, which takes approximately 20 minutes, but the hill going back up to the house is extremely steep so if you are mobility impaired best to take a taxi. The views from the Looking Glass are superb, the photos don't really do it justice. We would do daily sundowners on the second floor patio overlooking the hills around Bath. They even have an outdoor heater set up on the deck for chilly evenings (we went in January so it was indeed chilly). Oh, and we were amazed by how quiet the Widcombe area was. Truly not even a sound at night. Very peaceful. The house is beautifully furnished, finished and well-provided, with plenty of good cookware and some basic items. The beds are comfortable, more soft to medium firm. The only one thing I'd point out is the living room fireplace was lovely but it is due for a cleaning on the grate. Years of soot/blackening build-up have made it impossible to see the flames of the fire. Didn't really bother us to much though and nothing I'd avoid giving a 5 star review though.
The Looking Glass House Alastair - 2020-01-13
“Beautiful property and location. Highly recommended.”
The Looking Glass House Sarah - 2019-11-15
“A nice house in a beautiful, quiet location. The weather was wet and misty, but the accommodation comfortable and warm. Lorne was a great host and was immediately responsive to our needs. The welcome basket was a nice touch.”
The Looking Glass House Adrian - 2019-11-03

“If I could give this home 10 stars, I would. If you're looking for a great home base in Bath, look no further. This house is even better in person than it is in the photos. Extremely clean and cozy, beautifully decorated with a gorgeous garden, and the porch and its views are exquisite. There is a convenience store a short walk from the house, and city center is about 15 minutes on foot, as the listing says -- but it hardly seems it, as there is so much to see along the way. We travelled with our three-year-old and my parents, and it was fit for all ages. Thank you Alexa, the house was incredible and it will live on in our memories with a golden glow. Highly recommend!!”

The Looking Glass House Laine & Ben - 2019-10-01
What a find! Lovely stay at this very spacious house and garden. Achieves a great combination of feeling 'away from it all' yet just a 15 min walk to the lively city centre. Warm welcome from Sara and generous welcome pack. The covered terrace was great for eating outside whatever the weather. Highly recommended for a classy city break.
The Looking Glass House Colin - 2019-08-16
We thought Looking Glass House was really good. We enjoyed every minute there.
We’ll be back to Bath next year looking for a place to stay so probably see you then.
The Looking Glass House Michael - 2019-07-16
“Alexa’s Airbnb is beautiful beyond words, and is located a mere 5-10 minute walk from the Roman Baths, as well as the center of the city. The bedrooms are comfortable and spacious, and the dressers and clothes cabinets are completely empty and available for use. There are very comfortable couches and sofa chairs both upstairs and downstairs for relaxing, and the kitchen has every amenity needed for cooking if one desires to do so. The second floor patio is extensive and not only has the furniture needed for outside dining, but also provides a gorgeous view of the countryside that adds to the pleasure of staying at Alexa’s Airbnb. Sara gave us the keys at check in and familiarized us with operating the electric gate that keeps both the house and one’s car completely secure. Sara was also extremely accommodating when we thought we’d have to check out late due to a tire blowout that our rental car experienced the day before. This house is very amenable for friends/couples traveling together, as the spaciousness of the place and the bedrooms that have their own bathrooms afford plenty of privacy. It’s expensive, but well worth the price, especially if two couples are splitting the cost. If you’re going to Bath, this Airbnb would definitely be a fantastic place to stay if it’s available.”
The Looking Glass House Charles - 2019-07-10
We stayed here on the weekend of my wedding and couldn’t have had a more perfect stay. The garden and house were beautiful, and were so peaceful with just the sounds of the birds. It was surprising to us that we were in Bath City Centre within 6 minutes of walking. Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking to stay in Bath.
The Looking Glass House Sheila - 2019-06-24
"My husband and I recently stayed at the Looking Glass House in Bath. It was one of the nicest holiday homes we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many. The views from the huge balcony were mesmerising and I found myself out there often enjoying the vista. The house had everything we needed, including three bathrooms, lovely modern kitchen and lovely decor throughout. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again if we were holidaying in the area again. Also, great communication from Bath Holiday rentals, especially Sara!"
The Looking Glass House Robin L - 2019-05-31
The most amazing 80th birthday celebrations weekend one could wish to have in this awe-inspiring situation. The comfort, spaciousness, facilities and of course the view were ideal for our family get-together and so close to our daughter’s property too. Thanks to our daughter for organising it and the owner/agency for making this lovely place available
The Looking Glass House Sam and Peter - 2019-05-03
We had a lovely time here. The house and its design and architecture is amazing. And then the spectacular views! The gardens were great for the Easter egg hunt. We definitely gonna come back!

I think it was great staying here it is huge! The views are amazing!! I think it was a great place to stay.I am sad we are leaving. It was one of the best places I’ve been!!!
The Looking Glass House Hartwig Family - 2019-04-24
“What a fantastic location! Waking up in the morning and enjoying a coffee at the 1st floor terrace, enjoying the utterly brilliant views. The place is very stylish and equipped with everything you would need. The gardens are super well kept and we had the best Easter break ever A bit on the pricey side but very highly recommended Thank you”
The Looking Glass House Markus - 2019-04-23
This is the second time that we have stayed in the house, and it was even better in the spring! The garden was beautiful and the views were fantastic, no doubt helped by clear blue skies and a warm sun. The house has everything you need and there are days when you don't even need to go anywhere! We didn't put the T.V. on once as the best entertainment was the stunning outside. Looking forward to returning for Christmas...it is one of our favourite spots.
The Looking Glass House Elizabeth - 2019-04-12
“We had a fantastic stay. It’s a lovely spacious house, beautifully positioned on the edge of Bath town centre, with special views of the local countryside, in a quiet lane but only a 15 minute walk away from the centre. If you are looking for a special stay close to Bath but with your own space and quiet don’t hesitate.”
The Looking Glass House Louis - 2019-03-28
We were looking for the perfect place to hide and so some A-level maths revision…and found it. Such a wonderful place to spend time with the ever-changing views and the ability to walk into town in only 15 minutes. Had a wonderful walk around Prior Park Gardens - bottom entrance only 10 minutes away. Did the Bath Skyline Walk which was muddy but spectacular. Found a lovely wine ship - Beckford Bottle Shop - and cinema at Tivoli - both to be strongly recommended. THANK YOU for sharing this magical place.
The Looking Glass House Louis, Carys, Huw, Catrin & Marian Kenna - 2019-02-19
Fantastic property with awesome views. Light, airy, comfortable beds and all in all a great space. We stayed at The Looking Glass House the week before Christmas and it was a perfect time to do so!
The views from the living area were superb (even on the shortest day of the year!). We loved them so much we booked to return in the spring. The house has everything you need and has clearly been designed by a very decent architect! Lots of space downstairs housing a laundry area and a separate shower - great to use after going for a run up and down the hills in Bath. Also a day bed and lovely reading/study area.

Upstairs it was like being in a very large apartment, with two very spacious bedrooms, both en suite. We spent most of our time in the living area breathing in the views! As it was winter we didn't sit outside, however there are heaters for the braver visitors. The kitchen is well positioned and has all that you need.

Great walks from the house, we did the Bath skyline walk, thoroughly recommended.
A big bonus at Christmas was the short 5 mins walk downhill into town.

We were also really impressed with the service and care we received. All in all a top job. Thank you.
The Looking Glass House Liz - 2018-12-22

Such an amazing place. Loved waking up to the magnificent views! Definitely want to come back xx

A beautiful house in a beautiful location. Absolutely stunning views and a perfect location for Bath city. The house was warm and very well equipped. Loved staying here, thank you
The Looking Glass House Michele, Michelle, Mandy, Paul, Steve and Keith - 2018-11-20
We spent 3 nights with friends at The Looking Glass House and can thouroughly recommend it. It has wonderful views from the upstairs sitting rooms, the bedrooms/ beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. We also received a nice welcome hamper with chocolates, biscuits etc.
We were kept well informed throughout the booking procedure, were greeted on arrival and had everything clearly explained to us, we had no problems with the house at all.
The house is well located, around a 20 minute walk into town, although it is at the top of a steep hill so not walkable unless you’re fairly fit!

We would not hesitate to return to Looking Glass House.
The Looking Glass House Neil - 2018-11-15
We had the time of our lives. The house is absolutely stunning and we felt right at home. We’ll definitely come back to Bath and when we do we’d love to stay here in this lovely house. Wonderful
The Looking Glass House Gozems and Roberts - 2018-11-05
Lovely location, lovely house and very helpful agents. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spacious, relaxing, comfortable house. Location was quiet, with a beautiful yard and views. Parking a plus for Americans not used to narrow roads and street parking like we found in Bath. Close to downtown, with shopping and wonderful restaurants, and walkable (a bit challenging for 4 who are 60+, but we all went down and back up several times). All amenities as promised and more, as well as a nice welcome basket. Management company very responsive.
The Looking Glass House Karen and family - 2018-10-22
Beautiful home. We had a wonderful stay. The deck was enjoyed morning and evening, and all facilities were working well. When back in Bath, we will try to stay here again. Fantastic
The Looking Glass House Sandri family - 2018-10-16
Our recent 3 week stay at the Looking Glass House surpassed our expectations. The house is extremely spacious, and comfortably sleeps five in the two upstairs double bedrooms, and single daybed downstairs. Three bathrooms provide privacy for everyone.

The view is far more beautiful than the photographs suggest. No matter what the weather, eg watching the sunrise, or the clouds role in, the scenery is gorgeous.

The outside terrace is perfect to sit and enjoy the view, and we ate alfresco when the weather was fine. When eating inside, the large windows on three sides brought the view inside.

With off street parking for several cars, and an easy 10 minute downhill walk to Bath station and city centre, this wonderful house is highly recommended. So close to the centre of Bath, yet with the feel of the countryside. We have already booked another stay for next year.
The Looking Glass House Vanessa and John - 2018-09-21
Fantastic Home. Great Location ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful home. Short walk to Bath. Wonderful views from the large
balcony/deck.
The Looking Glass House Richard - 2018-08-28
This is a stylish, clean, modern, lovely house with a great bit of garden and beautiful views over the surrounding countryside. It's about 15 mins walk from the city centre (there is a bit of a hill but it's manageable). It's in a very quiet and peaceful area. There was someone to greet us at check in and everything was explained clearly and quickly. There was a welcome package with tea, coffee, biscuits, etc., which was a great touch. The kitchen has all the necessary amenities. All in all, would definitely stay here again
The Looking Glass House Buvini - 2018-08-20
We had a lovely stay in your wonderful home. What an amazing view from the balcony. We felt right at home. I would say that the house has an American feel to it. A touch of Frank Lloyd Wright. We enjoyed Bath very much, even squeezed in a round of 18 holes ant Bath Golf Club. I suspect some remodelling by Harry Colt? Nice old course on a lovely piece of land! Many thanks for a few inspiring days.
The Looking Glass House Kraemer Family - 2018-08-10
A quiet place, time stands stil. We felt we were part of the this countryside, so peaceful, relaxing. All needs of those who stay here have been catered for. Our thoughts are to be back!

“A fantastic weekend at a gorgeous house. Well equipped, lovely layout and a delightful view which you wouldn’t tire of looking at!! If we visit Bath again we’d stay here!!”

We know Bath well & our two sons and their families live here, but the outstanding views from your lovely house must be the very best in Bath; especially in the mornings of the last few hot days with the warm sun coming through the early mist.

Thank you for allowing us to share your home, its terraces and superbly planted garden (in its spring-time glory) for this past week - And also your interesting collection of furniture, objects and pictures.

Our best wishes,

The Looking Glass House Dee - 2017-10-24
We stayed at The Looking Glass House for the first time last week and intend to repeat the experience as soon as we can!

This is a fantastic property with views so good it was almost difficult to leave the property and enjoy Bath. In terms of comfort we couldn’t have asked for more and were genuinely sorry to leave.

Robert, our “host” was his usual enthusiastic and helpful self and we look forward to returning.
